Picadillo![]() Okay seriously. If you are one of those people who poke at your food or ask "what's in this?" before tasting it then just move along, there's nothing for you to see here. On the otherhand if you are willing to take a bite with no preconceived notions and just decide delicious or not then keep on reading. Picadillo is a Cuban dish that is savoury and, you know me, it's super easy to make. This is a fav in our house. Think of it as hamburger helper with some international flair!
In a large nonstick frying pan lightly suatee the diced onion and green pepper in some olive oil. (I use my mini chopper to dice the onion and green pepper all together). Sautee until the onion is clear but do not brown. Add the ground beef and brown it, mashing the onion and pepper into the meat. When the meat is almost completely browned add the garlic. Once the meat is fully cooked add the canned tomatoes, oregano, cinammon and cumin. Cook together until the the tomatoes have reduced, the spices are encorporated and the whole dish thickens up a bit. Add in the olives and the raisins and heat through. That's it! As easy as making spaghetti sauce or taco meat but a completely different taste. Serve over rice or egg noodles or with crusty bread. |
