Seven Layer Salad

This is the old 70s classic from Kraft. It has to be made the night before in order for the flavours to set. This is one of my favourite recipes when entertaining because anything that can be made the night before allows for more time visiting with guests.

  • 1 head iceberg, chopped
  • 1 cup thinly sliced celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped red pepper
  • 1/4 cup sliced purple onions
  • 1 package frozen green peas, thawed
  • 1 1/2 cups Miracle Whip
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 8 pieces bacon, cooked crips and crumbled

Place lettuce in bottom of large serving bowl. Layer celery, red pepper, purple onion, peas over greens. Spread mayo evenly over peas, covering the top completely and sealing to edge of bowl. Sprinkle with a fine layer of sugar. Refrigerate overnight. Before serving sprinkle with cheese and bacon.
